Bandipur National Park is one of the well-known tiger reserves and national parks in India, located in the southern state of Karnataka. It forms a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and is recognized for its diverse ecosystems, rich wildlife, and successful conservation efforts.
The Biligiriranga Hills, also known as BR Hills, is adjacent to Bandipur National Park. This region is known for its unique ecosystem and the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary, providing additional opportunities for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers.
Bandipur National Park is situated in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, approximately 80 kilometers from the city of Mysuru. It is part of the larger Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, which includes adjoining protected areas in the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
Bandipur is known for its varied wildlife, including a significant population of Bengal tigers. Other wildlife species found in the park include Indian elephants, leopards, gaurs (Indian bison), spotted deer, sambar deer, wild boars, langurs, and numerous bird species.
Bandipur is an integral part of Project Tiger, which was launched to conserve and protect the population of Bengal tigers in their natural habitats. The park has been successful in tiger conservation, and visitors have a chance to spot these majestic big cats.
