Village Ways Charitable Trust (VWCT)

Sehgal Neo Hospital (SNH) in collaboration with Village Ways Charitable Trust (VWCT), a non-governmental organization working in in marginalised valleys of Ramgarh, Nainital and Kapkot, Bageshwar of Uttarakhand through its preventive health care programmes including WASH, nutrition, school health, adolescent health and women’s health.

VWCT’s flagship programme, Tulsi Tele-health Care initiative was launched with a mandate towards making quality and comprehensive, affordable primary health care accessible through telemedicine across vulnerable groups and marginalized areas of Nainital and Bageshwar in Uttarakhand for improved community health outcomes.

VWCT and SNH will engage in a mutually benefiting relationship to achieve the aforesaid mandates.

SNH is providing free tele-consultations to the patient of Ramgarh (Dutkanedhar) and Kapkot (Supi) from different specialty which includes General & Laparoscopic Surgeon, Pediatrician, Gynecologist, Physician, Dermatologist, Gastroenterologist, Orthopedics and Dentist regularly on a weekly basis.

VWCT is in the process of scaling up their flagship program ‘Tulsi Tele-health Care Program’ Uttarakhand. As a part of this scale-up, they are setting up a new tele-health clinic in a very remote village called Badyakote in Pindar Valley (Kapkot block, Bageshwar district). This area is so far flung that the mobile network has not yet managed to reach there. They are also scaling up in the entire Betalghat block (Nainital district) in collaboration with NHM-Uttarakhand.

To run the operations of this clinic and its last mile Community Health Desks (CHDs) in remote villages, VWCT has  been recruiting a team of health assistants.  SNH is happy to support them for training of their new cadre of Health Assistants. SNH will conduct a month long residential training programme for the new recruits which will cover comprehensive topics for Health Assistants’ training including both theory and practical aspects. This initiative will enable access to doctor’s consultation and quality health care through telemedicine right at the community level and drastically reduce the need to visit other towns for seeking primary health services.

SNH is providing regular training to the healthcare workers of VWCT on different topics to enhance their knowledge, instill confidence and improve the quality of healthcare services provided by them over phone.

In Supi, at the beginning of this year, we had an unfortunate incident where a young girl tried to commit suicide but was saved just in time. It was found that she was going through some mental health concerns and required immediate counselling / medication from a psychologist / Psychiatrist. Our senior consultant psychiatrist Dr N Prakash immediately offered to help the young lady. He started her treatment incorporating both medicine and therapy. She is continuing with her treatment and is on the path of recovery.

Interactive session on ways to combat malnutrition

Sehgal Neo Hospital conducted an online session on Countering Malnourishment; Importance of Nutrition in Child Development for the parents and children of residents of Ramgarh Uttarakhand.

We felt the need to conduct this session after our paeditrician attended a health camp in Ramgarh, in association with VWCT, wherein it was found that most children and some adults were extremely malnourished and their diet comprised of packaged noodles and chips!

The honourable speaker was Dr. Mridu J. Sehgal – Senior Consultant and HOD, Pediatrics and Neonatology. This was a much appreciated, and highly informative session, which will prove instrumental in enhancing parents' knowledge on improving diet and nutrition as per the needs of their growing children.

The response from our audience was delightful as we welcomed lots of questions from moms and children.

Residential training programme

As part of our CSR activity, SNH in collaboration with VWCT, (Village ways Charitable Trust) organised a 45 day long residential training programme for a team of healthcare assistants from Uttarakhand.

These workers are a part of the team of VWCT’s flagship program ‘Tulsi Tele-health Care Program’ Uttarakhand. VWCT is setting up a new tele-health clinic in a very remote village called Badyakote in Pindar Valley (Kapkot block, Bageshwar district). They are also scaling up in the entire Betalghat block (Nainital district) in collaboration with NHM-Uttarakhand.

To run the operations of this clinic and its last mile Community Health Desks (CHDs) in remote villages, it is critical that the new team of health workers are well trained on both the practical and theoretical aspect of care giving. This was required so they could effectively fulfill the role as ‘Hands and Legs’ of the doctors consulting and treating the patients remotely via telemedicine.

We were delighted to receive the first batch of enthusiastic 16 trainees from Uttarakhand on November 24, 2021 who stayed and trained with us till January 7, 2022.

This extremely talented batch of trainees completed their theoretical & practical training on healthcare on January 7.2022 and a small farewell was organised for this wonderful batch.

We congratulate every trainee who joined us and showed the will power, dedication, and passion to reach the end of this program successfully. Armed with knowledge and confidence, this group returned to their home towns with the aim to provide support to doctors and quality care to patients in remote rural areas who have limited or no access to healthcare facilities.

Our best wishes to them for the future.

Here are some pics of their induction, training and farewell meet.
