Vulvo-Vaginal rejuvenation using a CO2 laser is a clinic-based procedure that is painless and takes no longer than 5 minutes to complete for an experienced practitioner.
To initiate treatment, a handpiece is inserted slowly into the vagina.
Once fully inserted, the laser beam is fired sequentially as the handpiece is withdrawn, allowing the entire circumference of the vaginal wall to be treated throughout its length. This initiates an inflammatory response, producing new collagen and extracellular matrix. The new collagen formation provides structural support and tightens the mucosa, while the synthesis of new proteoglycans and hyaluronic acid in the extracellular matrix stores water, promoting neovascularisation, providing nutrients to the vaginal epithelium. This further initiates recovery of the previously atrophied and thinning vaginal epithelium, normal lubrication, return of vaginal rugae, tightening of vaginal walls and encouraging the proliferation of protective lactobacilli.
Studies have also reported an improvement in symptoms of stress incontinence.
Post procedure, patients have reported continued improvements in dryness, burning and itching sensations, reduced dyspareunia, enhanced vaginal tightening, and improved sexual function with each successive treatment session.
