Born in 1973 in Bhopal Manish Pushkale is an autodidact who honed his artistic style and sensibility in the fertile and creative ambience of Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal. His calm, contemplative canvases dwell upon the ebb and flow of civilisation and its underlying spirituality through themes of genesis, progress and change. This reflective consciousness is tied to his deep interests in archaeology and geology, of which the latter he studied during his Master’s in Bhopal.
Pushkale’s art is intrinsically linked with the mythological, without making overt references to the same. A subdued colour palette lends a lingering calm to his works. However, on a closer examination, the motifs and symbols in his art come to light, giving it different meanings. Subtle brush strokes and shading create multi-layered meaning.
Pushkale’s works have been widely exhibited in India and internationally over the last 25 years. He has participated in several group shows, and is the recipient of numerous awards and residencies. Pushkale was also a recipient of the S.H. Raza Foundation Award in 2003.
